The venue and locations will serve as blurry backdrops to your memories. The food, drink and cake get woofed down and are gone for good. The flowers wilt and die and the decorations will be tossed away. Your makeup will be wiped away and your hair slept on. Your wedding dress will remain, but there will never again be a practical occasion to wear it. But as long as you have the photographs, there to ponder and browse or proudly display, you will always be able to put yourself back in that moment............
Traditional or Modern?
Traditionally wedding photography has been about getting the 'formal' shots and key events of the day in a staged and organised manner. Putting people into formal groups, posing and smiling. These can make very nice photographs, but people may feel uncomfortable and unnatural and these type of photographs don't always show the actual emotional aspects of the day.
A more modern approach is the more free flowing casual type photography, trying to capture the events of the day in a candid style. Some people call it documentary style or reportage photography. That's a pretty good description really. It's all about being there, shooting on impulse and capturing the moments, the expressions, the emotion and interaction between people in a more natural way. This is the way I prefer to work. Photographs are more natural, people look more relaxed and you see genuine emotions such as joy and happiness in the right context. I'm still out to get the key events, walking down the aisle, exchanging rings, first kiss, first dance etc, but I like to do it in a more informal way.
That's not to say I won't be flexible to give you what you want. The day is yours and my aim is to give you the best possible record of it in the style and format that suits you.
I'll sit down beforehand and discuss everything about your day, getting all the details and finding out what you like and don't like, then together, we'll agree what the style and approach will be.
